Writing Code that Works in Production — What you haven’t learnt from school

Large, production quality distributed systems still fail periodically, and the failures can be extremely difficult to diagnose. For years my research has focused on how to improve the reliability and diagnosability of failures in production systems.

In this talk, I will discuss a few programming practices that are simple to follow, yet violating them has resulted in hundreds of miserable failures in some of the most widely used production systems.
